Recommendations

Recommend me something (but suss out what kind of music I like first). I’m not going to review any inactive artists, but if you think I might like them you can say anyway. It would be great if you can list one or two of their good songs (and point to Youtube) or a single. Actually, this page is more for finding me new artists, I won’t necessarily review them.

Arigatou!

I’m not currently reviewing these artists, because I dislike their music/vocals or don’t have the motivation:

  • Annabel
  • Asriel
  • Ayane
  • Aya Hirano
  • ClariS
  • Do As Infinity
  • earthmind
  • Eir Aoi
  • FictionJunction Yuuka

  • JAM Project
  • Jupiter
  • Kaori Oda
  • KOTOKO
  • Leo Ieiri
  • Luna Haruna
  • LUNA SEA
  • Marina Kawano

Alternatively, I can try to give you a recommendation, if you tell me some artists you like (favourite songs, reasons why you like them, and artists you dislike might be useful too). I dunno how well this will go😛

I’m being biased, but here are my favourite artists (at least, ones you probably don’t know of already) ヽ(*≧ω≦)ノ

    Minori Chihara:

    KOTOKO:

    Kalafina:

    Eri Kitamura:

    fripSide:

    Daisy x Daisy:

And, a couple of songs from May’n that will improve your opinion on her voice🙂

    • 123 says:

Haha so is your name Yuki Nagato because Minori Chihara was her seiyuu?

I’ve actually listened to nearly all of the songs there. I’ve heard the Paradise Lost single, and also Light My Fire and Re-sublimity. I thought KOTOKO did mostly trance? Yeah I’m also Kalafina fanboy🙂. Also a Kitaeri fan, I’ve got the re;story album and her stuff after and her ARTERY VEIN stuff. I like “meditations” by fripSide and only your railgun but not really my type of music. I’ve heard Daisy×Daisy’s self-titled album, it had some ok stuff on it (but I prefer Nana Mizuki :-P). May’n’s voice still irks me but Scarlet Ballet and Chase the World are pretty good. Thanks anyway!

      • Yuki Nagato says:

Well, I’d probably choose that name anyways, since Yuki Nagato is my favourite anime character (but hardly anyone could do justice to Minori’s emotionless voice).

Wow, you’re very proficient in anime music (^▽^) I’d ask you to write for my blog, but that would be very rude, since you got a great thing here.

I’ll leave you with another Minori Chihara song, but this time it’s from a game. ∩( ・ω・)∩

        • 123 says:

Well I’m rather flattered thank you. I do like your writing style so it would be weird if I wrote for Japanese Melodia tho😉
PS The Minori song is nice
PPS I reckon Megumi Hayashibara can also do a good emotionless voice

  2. Yuki Nagato says:

Sorry, I forgot you knew of Kalafina before I posted xD

  3. I think Nagi Yanagi can be an option like the song – Laterality or Zoetrope
    Annabel – Akashi or Alternative

Those 2 artists are of my favorites, with Nana Mizuki and Kalafina as well

School food punishment (disbanded) – but their music was so great.
sphere(band of seiyuus) – non stop road
KOKIA, if you look for her epic side like Fate, KARMA, or New Day, New Life
    Maaya Sakamoto – Buddy

    • 123 says:

I have heard and like both of the Nagi songs you mentioned, I didn’t really like her album but I’ll probably review her next single anyway.
It’s unlikely I’ll review Annabel, Alternative was kinda cool but I can’t really get into her music.
I’m not going to review disbanded bands. Thanks for the sfp rec anyway, I might check them out.
Sphere – I’ve heard GENESIS ARIA from them which was ok. If I like their next single I’ll review it.
I’ve heard some KOKIA, my favourite is Womoi. She does some pretty cool stuff!
Not sure about Maaya. I love her voice, her songs not quite as much. Maybe.

      Thanks for the recommendations!

I don’t see Itou Kanako in your categories list, give these a listen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEcPbr1f4Nc, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SrAG0JwfQ8, and tell me what you think.

    • Alex says:

That’s because I list in Western order, so Kanako Itou🙂
I like Kanako Itou’s vocals, and quite a few of her songs. My favourite of hers is Fly to the sky, but the two you linked are also good.

  5. Lazarinth says:

Actually I hope you don’t mind me adding you to my blogroll, I’m just starting up.

  6. I heard Fictionjunction YUUKA is cool ……😛

    • Sorry, I just saw it on the not review list (that was the joke :/). To compensate it what about Do as infinity, Marina Kawano, and Haruka Shimotsuki

    • Alex says:

Dat Yuuka she is da SO COOL.

I’ve heard DAI, Marina Kawano and Haruka Shimotsuki before. The last two don’t particularly interest me. Do As Infinity is rock (good), but still not so likely. If they release new material I’ll have a listen, but I was a bit meh about the singer so we’ll see.

  7. vinícius says:

    How about Kaya?
He is a pretty gothic singer, he also has sung in a theatrical show with Kamijo and Juka (ex-Moi dix mois & ex-HIZAKI grace project) called node of scherzo. He is considered the ‘”sister” of guitarist HIZAKI and has collaborated with him on one of their singles, Vampire Requiem.
His last album, GOTHIC, was really good, you could take a look in it.
    I hope you enjoy!

  8. Moira says:

If you happen to be looking for jazz beyond Nana’s Aishuu Twilight, I recommend IU’s album ‘Modern Times’. She’s among the very few Korean artists I listen to, so maybe give her a try if you haven’t already🙂

    The Red Shoes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0FT6A4kg1E
    Everyone Has Secrets: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Qbk_OVsk-Q
    Between The Lips: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asr2xpVSSS0

    • Alex says:

Thanks Moira, I’ll get back to ya on those tomorrow.

    • Alex says:

Hey, I liked those a lot more than I thought I would! Tbh I’m not the biggest jazz person, I only like it now and then, but they were like a breath of fresh air. And that last piece was really chill and relaxing haha. I thought K-Pop was just uber-poppy dance-like music and stuff, guess that’s what I get for paying attention to the stereotype. Might check out the rest of the album sometime in the future.

      • Moira says:

I’m so glad you liked them! Tbh, from experience, a lot of K-pop is like how you just described it, but there are occasional gems here and there like this album. Enjoy the rest of Modern Times🙂

P.S. I recently found a soft spot for jazz. 😉

  9. mk03 says:

Maybe you could try KOTOKO or Sachika Misawa?

  10. Alex says:

I’m not listening to KOTOKO at the moment. Any songs in particular for Sachika Misawa? I listened to Links and Unite and they were okay, but probably not anything I’d listen to for more than a few times. Tbh I’ve been really busy lately though so I’m hardly reviewing artists I like, let alone random ones I pick on the side. I’m always rejecting your requests haha, sorry.

  11. iblessall says:

I’d love to see some reviews of Ray (both of the Nagi no Asukara OPs). My favorite song by he/she/them, though, was actually the image song for the show, “Nagi”.

    • Alex says:

Ah yes, the NagiAsu OPs were very pleasant (as was that image song you linked, which I hadn’t heard before). Unfortunately, I have a severe deficit in motivation at the moment, so I’m not really writing anything… thanks for the suggestions though ^^
