1. Cobalt Sky
I’m glad Aoi Eir has gone back to more of a rock sound after the last few anison releases. Cobalt Sky is an upbeat pop-rock number, a catchy track using bright electric guitars and synths to go along, and the offbeat cymbals boost the energy too. However, it’s not all smooth sailing. Her vocals sound more strained then usual on the high notes, and it’s not the most memorable song. A step up from the A-sides of her last few releases though.
2. DAY BY DAY
DAY BY DAY is another fast and happy rock song. Starting off with some blues-rock guitar riffs, the arrangement becomes anison-style in the verse. Unfortunately, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the chorus, as her voice is so powerful her head voice switches sound much weaker in comparison and stand out to me more. In a bad way. It turned out to be just an average track.
3. Saishoku no Hoshi
With the first couple of notes, I though Saishoku no Hoshi was going to be MEMORIA 2, but it turned out to be a slow and relaxed pop tune. Using piano, strings and an electronic beat, the arrangement carries a calming air, and the vocals fit the mood well. It’s a nice song, but nothing special.
Eh I don’t know, my fandoming of Aoi Eir has been going down with every release. I though Prayer and MEMORIA were great, but her last few things have been a bit bleaaaaah. Cobalt Sky was a bit better, but nothing more than average (>_<). I want more edgy songs from her to suit her powerful voice please please please.
