1. Kimi Tsunagu
IF KOKIA decided to do a rock-influenced song, I imagine it would be something like the the intro/verse of Kimi Tsunagu, Chants combine with piano to give an ethnic sound, before guitar enters in the verse to give a heavier feel and strings and synths also feature. The chorus, although catchy enough, is pretty standard J-Pop though and doesn’t have the same epicness of the verse. I can’t fault marina’s singing on the whole as well. A pretty unique song here, and great debut!
2. Towa Yori Towa ni
Quiet strings and glockenspiel which sound like they’re being played from a record open the B-side in a creepy fashion, but soon the track turns into a pounding metal track. There are gothic influences throughout the track found in the strings, soft harpsichord, chants and especially the waltz-like pre-chorus, but the goth-ness is not really featured in the chorus which is more pop. The guitar solo’s good too, short but sweet. Basically this track is a mix of gothic and metal with some pop influence in the chorus. It’s pretty cool!
marina’s solo debut single was awesome! Going with a rock style a good choice it seems and 5pb have delivered again with some excellent compositions. marina’s voice was good throughout, although it would be nice if she could develop a deeper tone for heavier songs. I’m interested to see where her musical path takes her…
